<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />April 5, 1954 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on April 5, 1954. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. <br />Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read and <br />approved. <br /> <br />Ben Gray was present at the meeting and there was discussion regarding the salary of Village <br />Assessor for this year. Upon motion by Dow and second by Bailey the salary was set at $600.00 for <br />the year. <br /> <br />Harry Dreissig, Fire Chief was present and asked about sending a man to the fire school in <br />Minneapolis the last part of the month. A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Dow to <br />send one man to the school who to be sent to be selected later. Carried. <br /> <br />Oliver Micheau reported difficulty regarding double parking by Greyhound buses, and noisy <br />mufflers used by some teenagers. Mayor Schwartz agreed to write the Greyhound Bus Co in regard <br />to the double parking. <br /> <br />The relief committee reported that they have decided to allow Leo Nelles $49.50 per month from <br />relief funds. <br /> <br />There was discussion regarding to patching and resurfacing certain streets. The matter was tabled for <br />further investigation. <br /> <br />The clerk was asked to write the state highway maintenance department at Hopkins asking if <br />Highway No. 101 through village could be repaired or resurfaced. <br /> <br />As the village truck is getting old and needs repairs, a motion was made by Bailey and seconded by <br />Meyer to call for bids for a new truck for general village work. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Trustee Bailey was delegated to look into the matter of having an audit made of all village insurance. <br /> <br />The following bills were approved and ordered paid: <br />Coast to Coast Store – mdse 39.30 <br />Zella M Page – salary 70.00 <br />Zella M Page – asst librarian 35.50 <br />E.R. Utilities – Mch lights 33.62 <br />E.R. Utilities – hydrant rent 68.00 <br />E.R. Utilities – street lights 100.00 <br />Farm Bureau – gas, oil, labor 6.35 <br />Geo Moos – police 92.60 <br /> <br />
