VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING April 5, 1954 A regular meeting was held at the Municipal Building on April 5, 1954. Members present: Edward Schwartz, Mayor; Harry Dow, Dan Bailey, August Meyer, Trustees; H.A. Briggs, Clerk The meeting was called to order by Mayor Schwartz. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Ben Gray was present at the meeting and there was discussion regarding the salary of Village Assessor for this year. Upon motion by Dow and second by Bailey the salary was set at $600.00 for the year. Harry Dreissig, Fire Chief was present and asked about sending a man to the fire school in Minneapolis the last part of the month. A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Dow to send one man to the school who to be sent to be selected later. Carried. Oliver Micheau reported difficulty regarding double parking by Greyhound buses, and noisy mufflers used by some teenagers. Mayor Schwartz agreed to write the Greyhound Bus Co in regard to the double parking. The relief committee reported that they have decided to allow Leo Nelles $49.50 per month from relief funds. There was discussion regarding to patching and resurfacing certain streets. The matter was tabled for further investigation. The clerk was asked to write the state highway maintenance department at Hopkins asking if Highway No. 101 through village could be repaired or resurfaced. As the village truck is getting old and needs repairs, a motion was made by Bailey and seconded by Meyer to call for bids for a new truck for general village work. Motion carried. Trustee Bailey was delegated to look into the matter of having an audit made of all village insurance. The following bills were approved and ordered paid: Coast to Coast Store – mdse 39.30 Zella M Page – salary 70.00 Zella M Page – asst librarian 35.50 E.R. Utilities – Mch lights 33.62 E.R. Utilities – hydrant rent 68.00 E.R. Utilities – street lights 100.00 Farm Bureau – gas, oil, labor 6.35 Geo Moos – police 92.60
