Special Meeting of the Elk River Parks and <br />Recreation Commission <br />Held at the Lion John Weicht Park <br />Thursday, August 27, 2020 <br /> <br />Members Present: Chair Williams, Commission members Anderson, Loidolt, and Soltvedt, <br /> <br />Members Absent: Commission member Holmgren, Niziolek, and Rathbun <br /> <br />Staff Present: Parks and Recreation Director Michael Hecker and Recreation <br />Coordinator, Tonya Love <br /> <br />1. Call Meeting to Order <br /> <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the special meeting of the Elk River Parks and <br />Recreation Commission was called to order at 4:12 p.m. by Chair Williams. <br /> <br /> <br />2. Discuss Orono Park Plans <br /> Mr. Hecker shared his staff report. <br /> Members reviewed the Orono Park Master Plan and cost estimates. <br />Members discussed the following items: <br /> Skate Park committee member to discuss changes due to location <br /> Splash pad options one or two, consensus on preferring Option one <br /> Impact of beach sand entering the splash park <br /> Why there are sidewalks on both sides of southern parking lot <br /> Redesign restroom and shelter designs <br /> Augment shortfall from Park Dedication Fund <br /> Cut lighting, prefer lighting Pickleball courts over park drive lighting <br /> Cut shade structures <br /> Look at cutting or doing beach node area <br /> Look into doing an 8-foot-wide beach walk to see if that would save from doing a <br />10-foot-wide beach walk <br /> <br />Members agreed to wanting most park amenities, without park drive lighting and trail <br />lighting, basketball court, and scaling back on restrooms. <br /> <br /> <br />3. Adjournment <br /> <br />There being no further business, Chair Williams adjourned the meeting of the Elk River <br />Parks and Recreation Commission work session at 5:17 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />
