UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:FROM:
ERMU Commission Tom Sagstetter – Conservation & Key Accounts Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
September 8, 20206.1e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
In the last 30 days, the level two charger located downtown had 8 sessions andprovided
customers with 33kWh. The DC fast charger at the Coborn’s fuel station had 24sessions
and provided240kWh. The charger in the ERMU/City Hall parking lot had 11 sessions
and provided customers with 124 kWh of green energy. There was a totalof 29charging
sessions and 255 kWh of energy provided over the last 30 days.
The Hometown WindPower Turbine has been erected and crews are working towards
the completion date of September 11. The City received a call from an individual
concerned about the wind turbine and the impacts it may have on the bird population.
ERMU staff called the individual and shared that the wind turbine is erected to be below
the normal height that migratory birds fly at, and that over the past 10 years MMPA
only had one bird fatality at the other 12 installations. The concerned person will
monitor the site and communicate with ERMU staff if there are birds impacted by the
turbine.
The LED bulb and newsletter program has been received with great enthusiasm by our
customers. It isgoing great! We have exceeded the goal of 100 new participants with an
incredible 345 new participantssigned up so far. Due to the great response there could
be a little more time needed to deliver all the bulbs and thank you notes.
Staff is working with an Energy City Commissioner to get the solar photovoltaic (PV)
shelter built. The Commissioner has contacts in the building industry, and we are
exploring options to have a company build the structure and install the solar PV panels
and batteries. There were some concerns about the original design and there may be
alterations to what St. Thomas originally provided.
Staff presented to 11 participants in the Powering Ahead with Vehicle Electrification
cohort. The initiative provides resources and technical assistance to 16 municipal
utilities across Minnesota to educate and engage leaders working to meet their
community’s electric vehicle adoption goals.
______________________________________________________________________________
Page 1 of 1
85
