UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br />TO:FROM: <br />ERMU Commission Theresa Slominski –Interim General Manager <br />MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br />June 9, 2020 6.1b <br />SUBJECT: <br />Staff Update <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />None <br />DISCUSSION: <br /> <br /> Minnesota Municipal Power Agency’s (MMPA)monthlymeetingwas held Tuesday, May <br />26, via WebEx. The summary points of the meeting are: <br />o The Board discussed the coronavirus pandemic and its effect on energy <br />consumption levels and prices. <br />o The Board discussed the status of the renewable projects the Agency is pursuing. <br />o Participation in MMPA’s residential Clean Energy Choice program increased over <br />April, with another 61 new customers signing up for the program. Customer <br />penetration of MMPA’s Clean Energy Choice program for residential customers <br />increased to 3.6%. <br /> <br /> I will be virtually attending the American Public Power Association conference June 8- <br />10. The annual business meeting is immediately before our commission meeting from <br />2:00-3:15. <br /> <br /> All staff are back to work, with two exceptions. We are exercising safety as per CDC <br />guidelines and staff are being very careful with social distancing and hygiene. There <br />have been a few questions and concerns voiced and we have responded. We plan on <br />opening to the public when the City is also ready to do so, likely a few weeks yet. <br /> <br /> Midcontinent Independent System Operator’s Return on Equity percentage has been <br />changed again with Opinion 569A issued by the Federal Energy Regulation Committee <br />on May 21, 2020. It is now being increased slightly from 9.88% to 10.02% (previously it <br />was reduced from 12.38% to 9.88%). The refunds that are being calculated will now be <br />slightly less. Previous estimates for the refunds were approximately $7,000 or less per <br />year, for 2016 -2019. <br /> <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />136 <br />
