Item # 6.2.

MEMORANDUM

TO: Mayor and City Council

FROM: Phil Hals, Street Department Superintendent

DATE: July 14, 2005

SUBJECT: Public Works Buildings Bids

Sealed bids were received on July14, 2005 for the construction of a cold storage building and
salt sand storage building with a cast-in-place concrete footing and foundation.

Bids were as follows:

Pro Star Buildings
Ebert Construction
Greystone Construction

Cold Storage Bldg.
$ 57,800.00
66,300.00
131,640.00

Salt Sand Bldg.
$ 88,900.00
82,600.00
119,964.00

Ebert Construction

Cold Storage Foundation
$ 78,400.00

Salt Sand Foundation
$ 179,600.00

The only cast-in-place foundation bid came in $ 150,000.00 higher than our budget estimate.
Staff is researching the reasons for the difference and hope to have some answers for the
council meeting. The staff recommendation is to reject all bids and re-advertise for a
insulated cold storage building that is redesigned to eliminate the cast-in-place foundation
and a fabric covered salt storage building.

Council action requested:

. Reject all bids for cold storage building, salt sand storage building and cast-in-place
foundations.

. Authorize staff to re-advertise for a redesigned cold storage building and a fabric
covered salt sand structure.

PH:dl
