<br /> <br /> <br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 4.3 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Consent May 18, 2020 Lauren Wipper, Human Resources Manager <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Hire Police Investigative Assistant Ron Nierenhausen, Police Chief <br />Bob Kluntz, Administrative Captain <br />Reviewed by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Approve, by motion, the hiring of Darian Poser to the position of Investigative Assistant effective Friday, <br />May 22, 2020. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />The 2020 budget includes the new position of police investigative assistant. We went to market to fill this <br />position and received 113 applications. Initial interviews were offered to 28 candidates, of which 19 accepted <br />and were interviewed. <br /> <br />The pool was narrowed to seven candidates for second interviews and from there, three were scheduled to <br />interview with Chief Nierenhausen. Following preemployment checks and screening, we recommend Darian <br />Poser for the position. <br /> <br />Ms. Poser holds an associate’s degree in psychology and law enforcement and a bachelor’s degree in criminal <br />justice. She has worked as a community service officer at the Minneapolis Airport, an advocate for the Mid- <br />Minnesota Woman’s Center in Brainerd, and is currently the executive manager for the American Institute <br />for the Advancement of Forensic Studies and a victim-witness coordinator for the Mille Lacs County <br />Attorney’s Office. <br /> <br />Ms. Poser will start at step A of pay grade 5N.
