UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br />TO:FROM: <br />ERMU Commission Tom Sagstetter – Conservation & Key Accounts Manager <br />MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br />May 12, 2020 6.1e <br />SUBJECT: <br />Staff Update <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />None <br />DISCUSSION: <br /> In the last 30 days, the level two charger located downtown had 10 sessions and <br />provided customers with 9 kWh of green energy. The charger in the ERMU/City Hall <br />parking lot had 2 sessions and provided customers with 8 kWh of green energy. The DC <br />fast charger at the Coborn’s fuel station has had 6 sessions and provided42kWh of <br />green energy to customers. There was a total of 17 charging sessions and 157 kWh of <br />energy provided over the last 30 days. <br /> The City of Elk River and Minnesota Municipal Power Agency are finalizing the easement <br />for the wind turbine to be installed at the Youth Athletic Complex. Currently the wind <br />turbine is being disassembled in California for shipmentto Minnesota. Once it arrives in <br />Minnesota it will be refurbished and then installed. <br /> Staff is working with the Minnesota Department of Commerce (DOC) to develop a new <br />energy efficiency program to provide energy savings through LED lighting for residential <br />customers. This effort will especially benefit customers experiencing financial strains as <br />a result of the pandemic. ERMU will provide 4 LED lamps to customers who sign up for <br />our energy efficiency newsletter and confirm they have installed the lamps. Final <br />approval of the mid-year program adjustment is pending DOC staff review. <br /> Staff is working with the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association’s Government <br />Relations Committee and Drive Electric Minnesota to build support for the Energy <br />Conservation and Optimization (ECO) Act of 2020. The ECO Act has been a legislative <br />centerpiece for two years and its passage would make considerable improvements to <br />the current Conservation Improvement Program by: <br />o Authorizing flexible CIP plans that last 1 to 3 years, allowing long-term planning <br />to achieve savings goals <br />o Increasing flexibility in spending requirements for the planning period <br />o Making new and emerging technologies eligible for energy savings credit, <br />including beneficial electrification <br />o Expanding options for helping low-income households <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />212 <br />
