<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />August 1, 1960 <br /> <br />A regular meeting was held at Village Hall on August 1, 1960. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> Henry Johnson, Mayor; R.G. Kemper, G.R. Bergerson, August Meyer, Trustees; <br />H.A. Briggs, Clerk <br /> <br />The minutes of the last meetings were read and approved. <br /> <br />A motion by Kemper and seconded by Bergerson to adopt certain rules regarding assessments for <br />the installation of sewer and water mains prepared by Mr. Dan Bailey. Copy of such rules are on file <br />with the Village Clerk. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Trustee Kemper reported on a meeting of the Liquor Committee with Mr. Balow, Manager of the <br />Municipal Liquor Store regarding the operation of the store. The committee feels that it is too early <br />to tell whether there should be any change in the personnel of the store. It was decided to leave <br />things as they are for the present. <br /> <br />Walter Johnson and Hilmer Bartelt representing the American Legion were present. The Legion <br />would like to rent the upper floor of the Liquor Store Building for Club rooms and a Civic Center. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Bergerson and seconded by Briggs to empower the Clerk and Mayor to sign <br />lease for the upper part of the building for a two year term at the rate of five cents per square foot, <br />unheated and not repaired or remodeled. This to apply if rented to the Legion or to any other <br />organization. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Mr. Eckbart representing Mr. Riedel who has charge of the dump was present. There was some <br />discussion regarding the operation of the dump. However, nothing was done about it at this <br />meeting. <br /> <br />The Council approved of Micheau’s employing Donald Dars as relief police officer when the chief is <br />away. <br /> <br />The Surf Aces asked for the use of the village Park for their summer celebration. The permission <br />was given. <br /> <br />th <br />The Council decided to close the swimming beach on Aug 6. <br /> <br />The following bills were allowed and ordered paid: <br />Carter Krueger sewer work 8.00 <br />Hawkins Chemical Co chem 42.75 <br />Farm Bureau gas and oil 48.16 <br />League of Minn Mun dues 90.00 <br />Fire Department fires 93.00 <br />Minn Fire Ext Co – repairs 4.50 <br /> <br />
