<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />January 3, 1938 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday Jan 3, 1938 at 8 <br />o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />Frank Nickerson, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Harry Anderson came before the Council asking for the approval for W.P.A. work. A motion was <br />made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius recommending W.P.A. work for Mr. Anderson. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to accept Henry Pfeiffers bond <br />as Justice of the Peace. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A letter was read from Chas M Nelson asking for reappointment as Village Marshall and Pumper for <br />the year 1938. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to reappoint Chas M <br />Nelson as Marshall and Pumper for year of 1938. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Leo Demars came before the council and asked if they would consider putting in a street light in <br />front of his house on Thomas Street which he and his neighbor had petitioned for a while back. A <br />motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Greupner to have this light put in providing <br />there would be no charge for installation. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius recommending relief for Nels <br />Riley. <br /> <br />A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Patenaude that the Clerk get a certified <br />account of all the relief money which was spent by the County relief worker during the past year. <br /> <br />Frank Nickerson, Mayor appointed G.A. Bailey and Wm Patenaude to see Miss Hoyt, County relief <br />worker about issuing relief orders to some of the relief clients without the approval of the village <br />council. It was thought that either the Council approve all of them or Miss Hoyt to take care of it. <br /> <br />It was brought up at this time that the doors in the Fire Barn were in a very bad condition and <br />therefore a motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Greupner to hire Herman <br />Middelstadt and have him put over head doors. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to allow the following bills. <br /> <br />E.R. Power and Lt Co – light and power 231.00 <br />N.W. Bell Tele Co – tele rent 6.50 <br />Fred Ayer – 2 fire calls 46.00 <br />Harold Sykes – school police 10.00 <br /> <br />
