<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />December 6, 1937 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Mon Dec 6, 1937 at 8 <br />o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />At the November meeting the matter of reduced water rates for the Concrete Products Co. was <br />brought up and then tabled to give the Council time to find out the rates of other cities and Villages. <br />After having investigated the rates of several villages it was found that Elk River rates were on the <br />par or even lower than some places therefore it was decided not to make any changes in the water <br />rates for the Concrete Prod. Co. <br /> <br />J.D. Flaherty Pres reported that Mr. Ed Rowland representing the Highway Dept. asked him how <br />much the village wanted for the piece of land they own below the creamery. A motion was made by <br />Wm H. Greupner seconded by Wm Patenaude to sell this piece of land to the Highway Dept and <br />have the President set a fair price for it. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Chas Nelson, Marshall, reported that the traffic lights in front of Johnston’s Café should be <br />disconnected because of the bulbs being taken all of the time. The clerk was instructed to have this <br />matter taken care of. <br /> <br />A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to grant Andrew Madson as <br />building permit for an addition to be put on his restaurant. <br /> <br />Wm H. Gruepner, Clerk, reported that the water pipes in Mrs. A.M. Hulberts yard were leaking and <br />asked if the Village should fix them because the Hulberts haven’t the means to do so. It was decided <br />to have Middlestadt Bros take care of this. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Patenaude seconded by G.A. Bailey to approve relief for Mrs. Mary <br />Martineau. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to grant the N.W. Bell Tele Co <br />permission to put underground wires from the Depot under the railroad track and Highway thru the <br />ally at the post office across Main Street up to the pole in front of Latta’s house. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm H Greupner to recommend W.P.A. work for <br />Donald Lloyd. <br /> <br />A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm H Greupner to pay Chas M Nelson $7.50 a <br />month for taking care of the stoker in the Municipal Bldg starting Dec 1, 1937. Motion carried. <br /> <br /> <br />
