<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />November 1, 1937 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Mon Nov 1, 1937 at 8 <br />o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Mr. D.W. Longfellow came before the Council stating that his water bill for the Elk River Concrete <br />Product Co for the last quarter was $141.00 and they had used over a million gallons of water and <br />sked if they could not have a better rate. After some discussion it was decided to table this matter <br />and find out what the rates are in other towns. <br /> <br />Miss Arleane Nelson came before the Council and presented applications for “on and off” sale non <br />intoxicating malt liquor licenses stating that she had purchased Art Karkhoff’s restaurant. A motion <br />was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to grant these licenses to Arleane Nelson. <br /> <br />Mrs. Ida Bourgoyne also presented applications for “on and off” sale non-intoxicating malt liquor <br />licenses stating that she was taking over Al Parker’s restaurant. A motion was made by G.A. Bailey <br />seconded by Wm Patenaude to grant Mrs. Ida Bougoyne the on and off sale license. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to appoint the following clerks and <br />judges for the Village election to be held Dec 7, 1937. Judges – J. Parker, Wm Blocker, Frank Nogle <br />Clerks – Mrs. Eva Foley, Irene Kaliher. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to grant a building permit to Al <br />Middlestadt to build a garage on his property and to Chas Booth to build an addition on his house. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />G.A. Bailey reported that the sidewalk in front of Caley’s Hardware Store was in a very bad <br />condition and should be attended to. It was decided to have the road committee see Mr. Middlestadt <br />about this and have it taken care of. <br /> <br />The Clerk was instructed to have a woman clean the floors of the Library and Council room once a <br />month. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to allow the following bills and <br />order them payed. <br />E.R. Power and Lt Co – power and light 234.29 <br />N.W. Bell Tele Co – tele rent 3.95 <br />Harold Sykes – school police 10.00 <br />Fuel 32.96 <br />Central Lbr Co – labor 17.20 <br /> <br />
