<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />August 25, 1937 <br /> <br />The special meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Wed Aug 25, 1937 at 8 <br />o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />Vistors: Chas F Noonan and O.W. Farrell <br /> <br />This special meeting was called to act on the building permit of O.W. Farrell for an Oil Station to be <br />built on the property between Beins Warehouse and the Depot. Chas Noonan attorney for Mr. <br />Farrell came before the Council with the written application, plans and specifications, also the lease <br />Mr. Farrell had from the Great Northern Railroad Co showing he had leased the land on the Great <br />Northern Railroad right away. Mr. Noonan stated that Mr. Farrell intended to operate the station <br />himself and he intended to make his home in Elk River. <br /> <br />J.D. Flaherty, president of the Council requested all people present to leave the room so the Council <br />members could discuss the matter with their attorney Frank White. After a lengthy discussion the <br />following resolution was adopted. It was moved by Wm H Greupner that the application filed by <br />O.W. Farrell be denied on the grounds that the said Farrell had not complied with Ordinance No. <br />16 of the Village of Elk River in regards to erection of fire proof bldgs. Within fire zone limits of the <br />Village of Elk has acquired said land by right of prescription from the Great Northern Railroad <br />Company and that said land in application is now a part of the public street and Highway of said <br />Village that thereupon Council men Geo Cornelius seconded said motion and on roll call of the <br />Council the said members thereof voted as follows – <br />J.D. Flaherty – yes <br />G.A. Bailey – yes <br />Geo Cornelius – yes <br />Wm Patenaude – yes <br />Wm H Greupner – yes <br /> <br />G.A. Bailey stated that he had spoken to some of the Commissioners and they were of the opinion <br />that Mr. L.H. Langly should be taken off of the relief roll. G.A. Bailey made a motion seconded by <br />Wm Patenaude to write a letter to Miss Hoyt County Welfare worker and instruct her to take L.H. <br />Langly off of relief. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Dan Hjerpe and Wm Roggatz representing the fire dept. came before the council and stated that <br />they needed 5 or 6 hundred feet of new 2 ½ inch hose. Harold Caley was present and said he could <br />furnish 2 ½ in double jacket hose at 84 cents a ft less 7 cents if the village furnishes their own <br />couplings. A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to purchase from H.R. <br />Caley 600 ft of 2 ½ in double jacket hose and also buy 2 small nozzles and one siameese to connect <br />on the 2 ½ in old hose and fasten the smaller hose on. The 600 ft of hose to be shipped as follows <br />200 ft to be shipped at once and 200 ft to be shipped Sept 15 and the last 200 ft Oct 1. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />
