<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />January 4, 1937 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday Jan 4, 1937 at 8 <br />o’clock. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of the last regular meeting and a special were read and approved. <br /> <br />Bert Sweeney came before the Council stating that he had heard that the Village were planning on <br />hiring a man to take care of the water works, street work and janitor at the Municipal Bldg and asked <br />for the job. Mr. Sweeney was told that the Council wished to think the matter over and the Clerk <br />would let him know the following day. Rupert Zimmer was also present and stated that Mrs. <br />Clements was going to keep her two trucks and wished to hire them out to the Village the same as <br />her husband had. After some discussion it was decided to appoint Rupert Zimmer as Street <br />Commissioner and Ed Belanger to take care of the water works. <br /> <br />Warren Wiese representing the Midwest Fire Apt Co. Was present and stated that Fred Ayers, Fire <br />Chief had told him that the Village was in need of fire hose. Mr. Wiese presented two different <br />grades of hose, double and single jacket made by the Manhattan Rubber Co. and gave a price of 75 <br />cents a foot for 2 ½ in hose, double jacket and 65 cents a foot 1 ½ in double jacket. A motion was <br />made by Wm Greupner seconded by G.A. Bailey to purchase 100 ft of 2 ½ in hose at 75 cents a <br />foot and 200 ft 1 ½ in hose at 65 cents a foot. Ayes – Wm Greupner, G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Wm Greupner, Clerk, reported that E.L. Shadick had asked for a building permit for the home he is <br />building on Park Street. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to grant Mr. <br />Shadick a permit. Motion carried. <br /> <br />J.D. Flaherty stated that Gus Paulson of Bares Café had asked him about the “No Parking” signs <br />which the highway were putting up across the street from his place. The Clerk was instructed to see <br />Gus Paulson and write a letter to the highway Dept. telling them about the inconvenience it causes <br />several places of business in Elk River. <br /> <br />A letter was read from Chas M. Nelson asking for reappointment as Village Marshall for the year <br />1937. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by Wm Greupner to reappoint Chas M <br />Nelson as Marshall and Pumper for 1937. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A letter was read from Mr. Mitten, County Welfare director, informing the Village officials that he <br />was holding a meeting at the Courthouse Wed Jan 6 and wished to have all County officials present. <br /> <br />A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to allow the following bills <br />N.W. Bell Tele Co – tele rent 2.50 <br />E.R. Power and Lt Co – light and power 228.84 <br /> <br />
