<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />December 14, 1936 <br /> <br />The special meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday Dec 14, 1936 at <br />8 o’clock. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The purpose of this meeting was to act on the petition for street lights which was presented by Elias <br />Bade and E. Shadick at the last meeting, also to hire someone to take care of the water works. A <br />motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Greupner to install one new light in the center of <br />Park Street and to change the two lights that are on Minnesota Street so one will be on Lookout <br />Avenue and the other on Minnesota Street. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Ed Belanger came before the Council stating that he would be glad to take care of the water works <br />and read the meters. A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to hir Ed <br />Belanger to take care of the water works and read meters. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Mr. Handke school supt. Spoke to several of the Council members about turning the lights on at the <br />Stadium. Stating that if the Village would pay for them now he would see so the Village would be <br />reimbursed for the expense either by the Community or Commercial Club. A motion was made by <br />G.A. Bailey seconded by Geo Cornelius to have the lights at the stadium turned on. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Frank Belanger and Aug Leider, relief clients came before the Council and said they were layed off <br />from their W.P.A. jobs and wanted the Council to help them get their jobs back. They were told that <br />the Village had nothing to say about men working on the W.P.A. and they would have to take the <br />matter up with the relief office. <br /> <br />No further business meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />Wm.
