<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 4, 1936 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg store Monday May 4, <br />1936 at 8:00 o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br />J.D. Flaherty, Pres.; G.A. Bailey, Geo Cornelius, Wm Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm H Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. <br /> <br />Mrs. Russell Sass came before the Council stating that the fire dept had burnt off the lot in back of <br />her house and had destroyed some signs and the children toys. Mrs. Sass was told to present a bill <br />for the amount of damage done. <br /> <br />It was decided at this meeting to remove the covers from the stop signs on main street. J.D. Flaherty <br />to see L.G. Nelson about connecting up these lights and see if they could not be had for $1.00 a <br />month instead of $2.00 which has been paid before. <br /> <br />George McBridge spoke to the Councilmen about hiring his son George as life guard at the <br />Municipal Swimming pool for the summer. A motion was made by Wm Patenaude seconded by <br />thth <br />Geo Cornelius to hire George McBridge as lifeguard from May 30 to August 15 at $25.00 a <br />month. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Wm Greupner reported that the sidewalk in front of Caley’s Hdwe store was in a very bad condition <br />and needed attention. Due to shortage of money in the Road and Bridge fund the matter was tabled <br />until a later date. It was also reported that the fence protecting R.E. Dares property between Caley’s <br />and John Blockers needed repairing. The Clerk was instructed to see Mr. Dare and have him take <br />care of this matter. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to appropriate $50.00 to Morris <br />Wilson for the maintenance of the campgrounds. Motion carried. <br /> <br />A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Wm Greupner to transfer $15000.00 from the <br />Bond and Int fund to the sinking fund. Motion carried. <br /> <br />The clerk was instructed to write to Mr. Jack Riley thanking him for the transformers which were <br />used the past winter for thawing out water pipes. <br /> <br />Al Parker came before the Council asking for a building permit to build an addition on his lunch <br />room. A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by G.A. Bailey to grant Mr. Parker this <br />permit. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to transfer Bob Shannon’s 3.2 <br />non intoxicating malt liquor license to Mr. Art Karkhoff. Motion carried. <br /> <br />
