<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />April 1, 1935 <br /> <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg. Monday, April 1, 1935. <br /> <br />Present: D.E. Davis, Pres.; Geo. Cornelius, J.D. Flaherty and Wm. Patenaude, Trustees; <br />Wm. H. Greupner, Clerk. <br /> <br />Visitors: Donald Dare and Chas Roggatz <br /> <br />Minutes of last regular meeting and special meeting of March 11, were read and approved. <br /> <br />Chas. Nelson, Village Marshall came before the Council stating that he had been down to the St. <br />Paul Machine Works and had inquired what the cost would be to have them build a new shaft for <br />the Village Pump. The cost was approximately $60.00. A motion was made by J.D. Flaherty, <br />second\[ed\] by Geo. Cornelius and carried to have Mr. Nelson send the old shaft down and have a <br />new one built. <br /> <br />Chas Nelson also spoke about several of the corner markers in the park being broken and ask\[ed\] <br />what he should do about them. A motion was made by J.D. Flaherty seconded by Geo. Cornelius <br />and carried to have Mr. Nelson see Mr. Gaffney about having the broken markers repaired. <br /> <br />The subject of the fine sand in the Water tank was brought up. After some discussion the Clerk was <br />instructed to see Mr. Shannon of the creamery and see if their new improvement helped matter any <br />way. The Clerk was also to get in touch with the McCarthy Well Drilling Co. and find out what they <br />would suggest to clear up the sand. <br /> <br />A letter was read from the League of Municipalities in reply to the questions the Clerk had written to <br />them in regards to the Village sending out the new Fire Truck to make calls, also if the Firemen <br />would be protected by the Workmens Compensation insurance while they are making such calls, the <br />same as if the calls were in the Village. They stated that \[word missing?\] Chapter 232 of the laws of <br />1929, Municipalities were authorized by resolution of their Council adopted by a 5/7 vote to send <br />the fire Dept. or any portion thereof to serve at fires outside of corporate limits of the <br />Municipalities. The provision is also in that law for the authorization of compensation for this <br />service. After some discussion the matter was tabled until after the Firemens meeting which is to be <br />held April 11, 1935 to see what they thought of the situation. <br /> <br />The old Fire truck was next discussed and a motion was made by J.D. Flaherty seconded by Wm. <br />Greupner and carried to have Fred Ayer take the truck to Roggatz and Anderson Garage and have <br />them overhaul it. <br /> <br />The following applicants presented applications to sell non intoxicating malt liquor <br /> <br />(“On and Off Sale”) <br />A.L.
