UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br />TO: FROM: <br />ERMU Commission Dave Ninow – Water Superintendent <br />MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br />February 11, 2020 6.1e <br />SUBJECT: <br />Staff Update <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />None <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Delivered elevennew water meters. <br /> Sealed the water meter, installed an encoder receiver transmitter, and took curb stop <br />ties from twelvewater services. <br /> Completed 15 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples <br />o All confirmednegative for Coliform Bacteria <br />o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the MDH <br /> Completed 21 routine fluoride samples <br />o All samples met MDH standards <br />o Submitted MDH Fluoride Report <br />Submitted MPCA Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) for the Water Treatment Plants. <br />Submitted MPCA Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR)for the Diesel Generation Plant. <br /> MDH staff conducted a routine sanitary survey of our water treatment facilitiesto <br />evaluate the adequacy of the facilities for producing and distributing safe drinking <br />water. The report came back that no deficiencies were observed. <br /> There have been five fire hydrants struck by vehicles so far this winter that have needed <br />repair. Unlike the movies, water does not shoot into the air after the hydrant has been <br />struck. The hydrants are designed to break off at the ground level. <br />Thewater operators have continued to work onthe annual preventative maintenance <br />ofour water treatment plants. <br />Interviews for the vacant Water Operator position were conducted on January 27 and <br />29, and an offer has been extended. <br /> On January 31, the Executive Administrative Manager, the Communications & <br />Administrative Coordinator, and I met with a Source Water Protection Specialist from <br />Minnesota Rural Water Association. The goal of this meeting was to go over the <br />previous Wellhead ProtectionPlan (WPP) Implementation Evaluation and discuss future <br />challenges for the water system. This evaluation was due in October 2020,but the hope <br />is an early start will allow us to pursue new initiatives in the plan and be better prepared <br />for the update to the WPP in 2023. <br />______________________________________________________________________________ <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />106 <br />
