<br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />TO: Heritage Preservation Commission <br /> <br />FROM: Zack Carlton, Planning Manager <br /> <br />DATE: January 16, 2020 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Regular Meeting of the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission <br />_________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Here is a brief introduction of the items on the agenda for Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 6:00 <br />p.m. at the Elk River City Hall. The agenda is included with this memo. <br /> <br />General Business <br />5.1 Jackson Street Water Tower <br />The city has been awarded a grant in the amount of $136,367 to help fund the restoration <br />and painting of the Jackson Street Water Tower. Staff will meet with a representative from <br />Kodet Architecture on Friday January 17, 2020, to discuss their assistance with the next <br />steps of the project. Kodet assisted the city with the architectural plans (last grant) that <br />allowed us to qualify for the grant. If any commissioners would like to join staff, the <br />meeting will be at approximately 2:30 p.m. this Friday. <br /> <br /> 5.2 Discuss Website Article <br />The next website article that had been scheduled to be posted was part 2 of the Hungarian <br />immigration to Elk River. Commissioner Mauren has also submitted the attached article <br />for review. Please review the attached article and brainstorm ideas for the next article. <br /> <br />5.3 Oral Histories <br />We will discuss the next steps with this project. Commission Lindberg has inquired about <br />video and audio recording equipment, both of which can be made available for an <br />interview. <br /> <br />5.4 County/ History Center Partnership <br />The city’s HPC had historically had a representative from the Sherburne County History <br />Center attend each meeting. Is the commission interested in reviving a similar role? Or is <br />there a large opportunity here? <br /> <br />5.5 Bylaws Discussion <br /> During the December 16, 2019, Council meeting there was discussion regarding the role of <br />the HPC, meeting logistics, Council reporting, and other opportunities for change within <br />the HPC. The City Council has updated the city’s ordinance as it relates to the HPC and
