<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />May 6, 1940 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday May 6, 1940 at 8 <br />o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> M.C. Tesch, Pres.; Geo Cornelius, G.A. Bailey and Frank Nickerson, Trustees; Wm <br />H Greupner, Clerk <br /> <br /> The minutes of the last meetings were read and approved. <br /> <br />The following relief clients were taken care of <br />Mary Martineau asked for relief but it was decided to have the present and the relief committee see <br />her son James and find out if he was not able to take care of his mother. <br /> <br />Joe Barker said that he had his wife at the University hospital and she was home now and needed <br />treatments from the l__ doctor. It was decided to grant Mrs. Parker four treatments at $1.50 a piece <br />for the month of May. <br /> <br />nd <br />Mrs. Cora Nelson asked for relief but was told that she had received a $20.00 check on May 2 from <br />the child welfare board and she would have to show a receipt as to where she had spent this before <br />any more relief could be considered. <br /> <br />Mrs. Aug Wruck representing Chas Kurrasch asked for and was granted the following. Groc $13.00, <br />Milk $1.50, Lights $1.00, 2 suits of underwear, 2 shirts and 2 pairs of socks and some muslin for a <br />nightgown. She was told to go to the courthouse for a pair of pants. <br /> <br />Lloyd Davis asked if there was some way he could get on W.P.A. He was instructed to report to the <br />relief office. He was also questioned and told that his residence was in the Township not the Village. <br /> <br />Mrs. Ellyn Clements – rent from Apr 8 to May 8 $12.50 – May 8 to June 8 $12.50 <br />Herbert Greupner, Dan Hjerpe and Lee Bishop representing the Fire Dept asked that the Village <br />buy new hose. A motion was made by G.A. Bailey seconded by Frank Nickerson to buy 100 ft of 2 <br />½ in hose from HR Caley. The committee also stated that at the last Firemens meeting a motion was <br />made favoring a new fire truck and the Firemens relief association would loan the Village $1500.00 <br />without interest. After discussing the matter with the Committee a motion was made by G.A. Bailey <br />seconded by Wm. Greupner to have the clerk advertise for bids for a new fire truck. <br /> <br />Fritz Carlson was present and asked if the W.P.A. crew that had worked on the storm sewer project <br />were coming back to work in the Village. M.C. Tesch, president, told him that he would call Mr. E. <br />Krissell the next morning and find out about this matter. <br /> <br />Rev. G.A. Morrison, Art Mevisson and Walter Johnson representing the Kittenball team asked if the <br />Village would not furnish lights in the stadium so they would be able to play after dark. A motion <br />was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by Frank Nickerson to pay for these lights. <br /> <br /> <br />
