<br /> <br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 4.3 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Consent September 3, 2019 Lauren Wipper, Human Resources Manager <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Hire Police Officer Ron Nierenhausen, Police Chief <br />Reviewed by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Approve, by motion, the hiring of Jeanette Nelson to the position of police officer effective September 4, <br />2019. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />With the retirement of Sergeant Justin Ege and the city’s practice of filling sergeant positions internally, <br />we went to market to fill a police officer position. We received 44 applications and following several <br />interviews, pre-employment checks and assessments, we recommend Jeanette Nelson for this position. <br /> <br />Ms. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice and became <br />POST eligible last October. Her law enforcement experience includes working several positions as a <br />security officer and a security dispatcher, most recently for Allina Health in Fridley where she is also a <br />Use of Force instructor. <br /> <br />Ms. Nelson will begin this position tomorrow, September 4, 2019.
