<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To <br />Ice Arena Commission <br />Item Number <br />8.1 <br />Agenda Section <br />Community Center <br />Meeting Date <br />April 16, 2019 <br />Prepared by <br />Rich Czech, Arena Manager <br />Item Description <br />Multipurpose Center /Arena Update <br />Reviewed by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Reviewed by <br />Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Discuss the status of the Community Center/Arena. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />On November 6, 2018, Elk River voters passed a referendum for a 0.5% local option sales tax to pay for <br />$35 million in recreation facility and park improvements. <br /> <br />Recently, City Administrator Cal Portner and Councilmember Jennifer Wagner testified on the bill to the <br />House Local Property Tax Commission and Mayor John Dietz and Mr. Portner testified in front of the <br />Senate Tax Commission. Through this process, the city was commended for their transparency on how <br />the funding would be spent. The bill is now included with the Omnibus Tax Bill which is expected to be <br />approved by May 20, 2019. <br /> <br />In the meantime, the task force has been working with the architect 292 Design Group, and the <br />construction manager RJM to prepare the final drawings and cost estimates and is very close to <br />presenting them to the Council for approval. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br />N/A <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> Plans from the 292 Design Group <br /> Construction estimate dates <br /> Renderings of building <br /> <br /> <br />
