EGty1� ,.,�� Request for Action <br /> River <br /> To Item Number <br /> Mayor and City Council 10.2 <br /> Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> Work Session August 5, 2019 Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Item Description Reviewed by <br /> Elk RiverFest Update Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> Reviewed by <br /> Steve Benoit,Recreation Manager <br /> Action Requested <br /> Provide a summary of the Elk RiverFest held on Saturday July 6. <br /> Provide direction to staff on the date to hold the 2020 Elk RiverFest. <br /> Background/Discussion <br /> Elk RiverFest was open from 2—9 p.m. and offered a variety of activities for families including touch-a- <br /> truck, carnival games, crafts,mini-golf, arts and crafts vendors,not-for-profit organizations, food <br /> vendors,bingo,beer and wine sampling, a demonstration area, and a concert. The event was capped off <br /> with a fireworks display held on the Elk River High School campus. A larger area of downtown Elk River <br /> was blocked off than the previous year in order to expand the side of the event. <br /> Various city departments came together to make the event happen. In addition, a large number of <br /> community organizations also participated. The First National Bank of Elk River was the key sponsor of <br /> the event. Other sponsors include The Bank of Elk River and Park Dental. <br /> The attendance was estimated at 7,000 as compared to 5,000 in 2018. <br /> The idea of consistently holding Elk RiverFest on the first Saturday in July has been discussed.
