MMPA Hometown Solar Installation
The City of Elk River was selected to receive a grant from Minnesota Municipal Power Agency for their
Hometown Solar program. The grant provided a 5 kW solar array which was installed in June just outside
City Hall, across from the library. The goal of the small solar array is to provide education and up close
connection to solar energy, to help teach how sunlight is converted into electricity within our city. In
addition to the solar arrays, the City will receive an education kiosk that accompanies the solar panels.
City staff would like to locate the kiosk at the library, as it will receive more use and provide more
educational opportunities than inside City Hall. The kiosk can only access a few websites including the
SolarEdge website that shows real time production plus a few other educational websites.
The panels are located just east of City Hall along the path around Lake Orono.
Possible kiosk
location
Solar Panels
We're proposing to place the kiosk in the children's section where the panels are visible across the
street.
