At a work session on May 8
the Parks and Recreation Commission discussed the design features preferred in an Elk River picnic
pavilion.
The Commission recommended,by a vote of 3-2, the following design elements for the standardized
picnic pavilions:
■ Steel Frame Poligon Chelsea Pavilion style
■ Steel roof with wood underlayment
■ Red roof for Lion John Weicht Park to match Rivers Edge Commons Park gazebo.
■ A nature-tone roof decided by Woodland Trails Regional Park Committee for WTRP.
■ Rock veneer columns up to four feet to match city's wayfinding rock
Except for the roof color, all of the Commissioners were in agreement with the Poligon Chelsea Pavilion
design style. They are not in agreement with the roof color. Some feel a natural color is best for
Woodland Trails Regional Park and other nature-type parks, while others feel the red color should be
consistent and a standard throughout the entire park system.
Other design elements that will be included in the particular design for WTRP and the Lion John Weicht
Park shelters include a serving counter with electric outlets and interior lighting with sensor and timer for
night activates.
Financial Impact
N/A
Attachments
■ Poligon Chelsea design style sheets
The Elk River Vision
A PehoMing community 2a itb revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional POWERED By
service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity INAMIRE1
