Parks and Recreation discussed potential locations for a public art
installation, but felt that selecting a specific location would narrow the type of art medium chosen. The Parks
and Recreation Commission were very supportive of public art in the parks and/or public facility as outlined
in the Elk River Public Arts Plan.

Parks and Recreation would like to continue being involved in the process, including participating in the sub-
committee.

The next step is for the EDA to develop an RFP and connect with local artists, and re-establish the 2014 sub-
committee. Once an artist is selected through the process, an application for the CMAB grant would be
submitted in early 2020.

Financial Impact
In 2014, $17,000 was allocated for public art. The actual cost was $15,400. At that time, no grants were
available for the project. The EDA will discuss budgeting for public art installation at their June 17, 2019,
meeting.

Attachments
CMAB FY19 Public Art Guidelines
Public Art Draft RFP
Potential Questions for Public Survey re Public Art Project
Parks and Recreation staff report (June 12, 2019)
- Elk River Public Arts Plan

The Elk River Vision
A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional
service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity
