Elk River ,� <br /> Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br /> TO: FROM: <br /> ERMU Commission Mike Tietz—Technical Services Superintendent <br /> MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br /> March 12, 2019 6.1d <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Staff Update <br /> ACTION REQUESTED: <br /> None <br /> DISCUSSION: <br /> • In February, the locating department had a total of 81 locate tickets consisting of two <br /> emergency tickets, 4 cancellations, 57 normal tickets, and 13 updated tickets.This is a <br /> 29%decrease in volume of tickets from the previous month. <br /> • Electrical Technicians continue with updating the power bill, substation checks, <br /> disconnects, reconnects, dealing with customer meter and off-peak issues, as well as <br /> installing new meters for commercial customers. Staff has begun disconnecting A/C <br /> controllers in preparation for the upcoming cooling season this year as we don't offer a <br /> program at this time.The two Electrical Technicians attended the Upper Midwest <br /> Metering Association (UMMA) Winter Conference in Red Wing this past month.There <br /> was much valuable discussion about topics such as AMI and Meter Testing during the <br /> conference as well as with their peers. <br /> • On February 15, Engine #3 was tested due to last month's issue. It was determined that <br /> the engine speed was too high which caused the frequency to be out of sync with the <br /> system.This issue has been corrected. It should also be noted that on January 30, other <br /> utilities around the state experienced issues with their generators due to the extremely <br /> cold air temperature that day. The monthly run on February 27 of Engines 1, 2, 3 &4 <br /> was performed with no issues. <br /> • The weekly meter reads continue to go well. Staff continues to audit meters for non- <br /> compliance with our clearance standards as well as looking for tampering of equipment. <br /> The weather has made this task a bit challenging this past month. <br /> • Mapping department continues to enter GPS points and attribute points for all of our <br /> systems assets within the ESRI ArcView GIS system.The locators continue to collect GPS <br /> points and enter data into the GIS system as time allows.
