A spec~l meeting of the Elk River Village Council of t~e ~illage of Elk River,
V.i.nn., was called to order by Mayor Bartelt on June 30, 1970, in the Council Room
of the ,Village Office Building at 7 :30 pm, members were present as follows: Uayor
Bartelt, Councilman Hudson, Syring, Micheau and Konop.

This was a open meeting to discuss the petition ,from .the Burlington Northern
Railroad filed with ~he Public Service Commission,. for permission to close Lowell
and King Aven~e Crossings in Elk River. In attendance were Charles '!hompson,
Charles Dare",and John MacGibbon.

It was reported that the opinion of most of the interested parties contacted were,
that at leas' on~ crossing should remain open. The closing .of both crossings
would create a traffic overload at Jackson Avenue Crossing Which is now already
considered heavy wi~h traffic.

The Elk Riv.er planning Commission are pres$iting~.n resolution opposing the
closing of either crossing, as a study made-by the Plann~r indicates future
traffic patterns would require these crossings to remain openo

Agreeable that a traffic count on Jackson Avenue and Main Street crossings be
taken and presented at the hearing, would be helpful.

\

_ Moged .~.y GpUJlci}.ma.n Hudson and seconded by Councilman Micheau to request .an.
exten~ion 'of time to study the proposed crossi..l'lg closings.
