Eden Prairie Community Development Agency
-
merce has decided to direct ser-
vices specifically toward the
city's merchants.
"We are trying to start a re-
tail association that will be
supportive and responsive to
the retailers in this communi-
ty;" says Chamber president
Arlyn Grossing.
Retail in Eden Prairie encom-
passes all tiers of what Grussing
calls "the hierarchy of shopping
centers." That is, it includes
convenience stores, neighbor-
hood centers with 10 to 15
stores, "community centers"
(serving several neighborhoods)
and a regional shopping center.
"Today, most of the retail
growth comes around regional
centers --centers like the Dales
and Eden Prairie Center," says
Grossing. "If you look at the
areas around those centers,
you'll see a proliferation of
small, specialty -type centers lo-
cating close by. If you have a
regional center in your commu-
nity, you'll have retail growth."
Growth in retailing, com-
bined with steady housing con-
struction, creates the promise
of stable growth that businesses
find appealing, and which in-
creases business migration to
Eden Prairie, says Enger.
Room to groan
Enger and his team of plan-
ners still consider the city to
be a work in progress. They
are currently working on the
development of a downtown
area, referred to as Eden
Prairie Market Center. It is
approximately 100 acres of
_ ----
Eden Prairie Employment by ,firdustry (199215ata)
t'INDUSTRY EMPLOYMENTS'
PERCENT ';I
j • Agriculture - -
l: Forestry, Mining .... .................................... 134..-.................._...................0.4
%. :.
f...
