ElkRiver':%
MunicipalU
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:
FROM:
ERMU Commission _
Tom Sagstetter — Conservation & Key Accounts Manager
MEETING DATE:
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
November 13, 2018
6.1f
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In the last month, the level two charger downtown had 2 sessions, and provided
customers with 12.5 kWh of green energy. The level two charger in the ERMU/City Hall
parking lot had 9 sessions and provided customers with 108 kWh of green energy. The
DC fast charger at the Coborn's fuel station has had 4 sessions and provided 56 kWh of
green energy to customers.
• Presented at the Minnesota Real Estate Journals Annual Data Center Summit in Golden
Valley, MN. Staff spoke in a panel format with representatives from Great River Energy
and Dakota Electric Association. There were approximately 20 commercial real estate
professionals who attended our session to learn about what aspects of a community
attract data centers.
• Participated in STEM Family Night at Salk Middle School. The event was well attended
by over 60 Elk River families. Students and parents were encouraged to stop by and learn
about Eddy Current, ERMU's 100% electric vehicle which is primarily fueled by 100%
renewable electricity.
• Attended the 2018 Minnesota Energy and Manufacturing Forum at the Monticello
Community Center. The event was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and
Representative Zerwas presented on his proposed legislation on unlawful assemblies and
public nuisances, and recovering costs associated with such events. His focus was the
assemblies that have negatively impacted the proposed replacement of the Enbridge Line
3 Project in northern Minnesota. Speakers from Xcel Energy focused on their
commitment to providing affordable rates and increasing the use of renewable energy
generation to meet the needs of a growing economy. Enbridge spoke on the need for the
Line 3 replacement to provide needed crude oil to refineries. The existing pipeline is only
operating at 50% because of safety concerns. The replacement would allow it to operate
at the maximum capacity again.
• Met with city EDA staff to discuss the marketing strategies for the proposed data center
site owned by the County near the other existing data center locations. We developed two
letters that the EDA can use to communicate with prospective buyers of the property.
• Working with statewide stakeholder group on a revised dispersed generation (DG)
interconnection process, contracts, and rates. The revised documents will have to be
approved by the ERMU Utilities Commission by June 1, 2019.
Page I of I
i [fill
