ElkRiver'Z;E
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:
FROM:
ERMU Commission
Mike Tietz —Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE:
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
November 13, 2018
6.1d
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
In October, the locating department had a total of 533 locate tickets consisting of six
emergency tickets, I I cancellations, 8 meetings, 425 normal tickets and 67 updated
tickets. This is a 15% increase in volume of tickets from the previous month. The locators
continue to gather GPS points and data as time permits.
Electric Technicians continue with updating the power bill, substation checks,
disconnects, reconnects, dealing with customer meter and off-peak issues, as well as
installing new meters for commercial customers. Staff collected oil samples from all
substation transformers and regulator banks for the yearly testing for dissolved gas
analysis. On October 31 staff ran Engines 1, 2, 3 & 4 without any issues.
The weekly meter reads continue to go well. Staff continues to revisit accounts that were
notified of not being in compliance with our standards to follow-up on their progress. On
October 15, MN Statute 21613.097 Cold Weather Rule was reinstated thus restricting the
disconnection of service.
Mapping department continues to enter GPS points and attribute points for all of our
systems assets within the ESRI ArcView GIS system. On October 24, staff met with
representatives from the City of Shoreview to discuss and demonstrate our GIS/GPS
systems with regard to water systems. This is a direct result from Angela Haugue's
presentation at the annual Minnesota American Water Works Association (MN AWWA)
conference in September.
The System Engineer started October 29 and has begun working on several projects. We
were unsuccessful in hiring for the Operational Technology Superintendent position. We
are planning to re-evaluate the position and post again after the first of the year.
Page I of I
95
