Elk River <br /> Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING <br /> TO: FROM: <br /> ERMU Commission Eric Volk—Water Superintendent <br /> MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: <br /> October 9, 2018 6.1 e <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Staff Update <br /> ACTION REQUESTED: <br /> None <br /> DISCUSSION: <br /> • Delivered 14 new water meters. <br /> • Sealed the water meter, and took curb stop ties from twenty water services. <br /> • Completed 15 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples <br /> o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria. <br /> o Bacteriological/Disinfectant Residual Monthly Report submitted to the MDH <br /> • Completed 19 routine fluoride samples <br /> o All samples met MDH standards. <br /> o Submitted MDH Fluoride Report <br /> • Water Operator Dave Ninow was selected to hold a position on the St. Cloud Technical <br /> & Community College's (SCTCC) Water Environment Technologies (WETT)program <br /> Advisory Committee. The committee meets twice per year and discusses the WETT <br /> curriculum with SCTCC to ensure the program remains relevant in training the water <br /> operators of the future. <br /> • The water department repaired the two valves that were damaged when being shut off <br /> during the valve failure on Carson Circle. One of the valves had a broken valve stem pin, <br /> and the other required new bonnet bolts. <br /> • The water department has continued to locate and validate existing areas of the <br /> distribution system, along with locating new developments for addition to the map. <br /> • We have also been working on a water meter audit. This will ensure we have <br /> accountability of the water meters in the system, and that we are billing correctly. <br /> • Water Operator Katy Olson attended a Chlorine Safety Seminar in Bloomington on <br /> September 27. The program included training on breakpoint chlorination, chlorine safety, <br /> chlorine generation, and disinfection by-products. <br /> • The Harley Davidson HOG Chapter painted 69 hydrants for us on September 30. They <br /> are also on board for shoveling out hydrants this winter if the need arises. <br /> • I assumed the duties and responsibilities of the Minnesota American Water Works <br /> Association(MN AWWA) Section Chair on September 20. The section has roughly <br /> 1,000 members from utilities across the state. I will be leading the section throughout the <br /> next year. At the annual conference our keynote speaker was Will Steger. The conference <br /> covered four different tracks and was attended by roughly 680 water professionals. <br /> • As Suburban Utilities Superintendent Association(SUSA) President, I continue to be <br /> involved with the planning and coordination of the Annual SUSA School which will take <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br /> 69 <br />
