Item: 7 <br /> City of <br /> Elk Memorandum <br /> River <br /> To: Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> From: Michael Hecker,Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Date: September 12,2018 <br /> Subject: Director's Report <br /> This report is a monthly highlight of department activities related to collaborations, strategic <br /> planning, staff changes/developments,and park operations. <br /> Senior Program Coordinator Annette Bonin Resignation <br /> Senior Program Coordinator Annette Bonin resigned effective September 5. She had planned to <br /> retire later this year but was presented an opportunity to work in the Brainerd Lakes area,not in <br /> government. She has a home at Breezy Point and had planned to retire there. <br /> Steve Benoit has moved his office to the Senior Activity Center to assist in its daily operations. He <br /> will continue his work but also plans to observe and analyze the overall senior programming. The <br /> overall plan is to make recommendation to improve efficiencies in facility operations and daily <br /> programming. All of the recreation staff will assist in the daily programming. <br /> Park Foreman Promotion for Josh Baas <br /> City Council approved at the September 5 City Council meeting the promotion of Josh Baas to the <br /> position of foreman. The recent reorganization of the community operations and development, <br /> parks and public works departments created two new foreman positions. One was for Parks <br /> Maintenance and the other Streets. The foreman positions are non-union exempt positions <br /> reporting directly to Tim Sevcik. <br /> Josh Baas has been working for the city since May of 2011. He started as a seasonal laborer working <br /> one full summer season and then being hired full-time as he was working his second summer <br /> season. In June 2016,Josh was appointed as the lead worker for parks maintenance and has been <br /> serving in that position ever since. <br /> Deerfield Hill Park Playground Dedication <br /> The contractor for the new playground completed installation the last week of August. The new <br /> playground should be open after September 11, depending on the weather. The work will not be <br /> done until all of the paving is completed. We are planning a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new <br /> playground on Monday, October 1 at 4:45 pm.
