<br /> <br />*Item 3.5.* <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Bill Maertz, Director of Parks and Recreation <br /> <br />DATE: May 2, 2005 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Authorize to Contract for Purchase and Installation of Playground <br />Equipment for West Oaks Park <br /> <br />Background: <br />The 2005 parks capital improvement budget included $50,000 for purchase and installation of a <br />playground at West Oaks Park. This sum includes concrete edging and safety surfacing. <br />Requests for proposals were sent to four park equipment companies. Based on the square footage <br />available at the park site a "not to exceed" amount of$45,000 was specified. Proposals were to <br />be "turn key" with installation of equipment and safety surface by the contractor. The concrete <br />edging was included in the bid package for the King Avenue parking lot. <br /> <br />Summary: <br />Four proposals were received. They are as follows: <br />PLAYGROUND PROPOSALS <br />MNWI Playground <br />$42,640 <br />Webber Recreational Inc. <br />$44,992 <br />Clearwater Recreation <br />$45,000 <br />Earl F. Anderson <br />$45,000 <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff and Park Commission members have reviewed the proposals, and believe that the proposal <br />from MN/WI Playground provides the most play features at the best price. <br /> <br />Action Requested: <br />Authorize staff to contract for purchase and installation of playground equipment from MN/WI <br />Playground Golden Valley MN, 55427 for a total of $42,640. <br /> <br />Attachment: <br />Playground plan <br />
