Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Theresa Slominski—Finance & Office Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
August 14, 2018 6.1b
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• As mentioned previously, we were scheduled for a site visit with NISC staff at the end of
July for fund accounting implementations and, unfortunately, that had to be delayed for
more development. This will most likely happen sometime after September; I will keep
the Commission updated.
• Bi-annual bond payments due August 1st have been paid via wire transfers and totaled
$590,548. The bonds we have are: a water bond that will mature in 2022; two refundings
of electric bonds (one final payment for a maturity this year and one that will mature in
2022);the new bond from 2016 for our MMPA buy-in maturing in 2036, and a share in
the bond with the City for our office buildings that will mature in 2023.
• We will be sending notices for assessments this month for sewer, water, trash, and
applicable electric outstanding balances. (There are only some electric instances that can
be assessed.) Any of these noticed customers with remaining outstanding balances in
October will be assessed in November.
• Connexus sent out their first letter notifying customers that we will be acquiring them in
September and this has generated a few phone calls. We are sending our letter this week
with a Frequently Asked Questions sheet, some CIP materials, and LED coupons.
• There was a record of 33 move-in/move-outs in one day this month. We typically average
75 per month.
• We received notification from the state of compliance with the Local Government Pay
Equity Act submitted January 10, 2018. We anticipated a compliance letter but it is
always reassuring to actually have it in hand.
169
