City of
Pn(411 ...,
Elk
Memorandum Item: 5.2
............
River
To: Parks and Recreation Commission
From: Tim Sevcik, Street and Park Superintendent
Date: August 8, 2018
Subject: Staff Report
Athletic Field Update
Staff continues to work with the irrigation and well contractors at DAAC to install the new irrigation
system. The project was delayed due to a backorder on a key part of the system,a remote relay that
provides signal between the Kuss Field Well and DAAC well to synchronize water flow between the
wells. This part is anticipated to arrive the week of August 6,2018, and should be installed soon after
arrival. In addition, while boring the pipe connecting the two wells, the direction bore rig severed the
main line that feeds the irrigation system. Staff is working with the vendor to make the necessary repairs
and expects completion on August 7, 2018.
The Youth Lacrosse season at OKAC was completed on August 5, 2018. Staff will be working over the
next three weeks to replace turf in warn areas, core pull, over seed and fertilize the field in preparation
for the start of Youth Football beginning on August 25, 2018. In addition, to striping the two fields for
football,Youth Lacrosse has requested the use of Kliever Lake Fields for fall practices; staff will be
working to prepare a 3/4 size field to accommodate the request.
Park Improvement Fund Update
Staff has begun work in preparation for the playground installation at Deerfield Hill Park. Staff has
removed the existing timber retaining wall which was failing at the site, and expanded the playground
area by 2000 square feet to accommodate the new equipment. Staff will be working to build the new
retaining wall, remove the existing playground and conduct site grading over the next two weeks.
Installation of the new playground equipment is anticipated to begin the last week of August with
completion in mid-September. In addition to the playground, the existing parking area will be
reconstructed and an ADA accessible trail between the parking lot and playground will be installed.
1~® / 1111 I ?
N:\Departments\Parks and Recreation\Commission\Packets\2018\08-08-18 PRC Packet\5.2 Public Works NATURE
Superintendents Report.docx
