•
le
Elk River
' Municipal Utilities
13069 Orono Parkway phone: 763.441.2020
Elk River, MN 55330 Fax 763.441.8099
December 1. 2005
' To: Ilk River Municipal Utilities Commission
Jerry Takle
John Dietz
' .Jim Tralle
I roni. Bryan Adams
Subject: Budgeted Equipment Purchases
The 2006 budget has two pieces of equipment staff desires to pursue. The first is Val\e
and Vac Exerciser Machine to do maintenance on water gate valves in the street. See the
1111 attached picture of this piece of equipment. The budget allocates $42.000 for this piece
of equipment. Staff is proposing to purchase a demo unit from National Waterworks for
$39.856 which is a $13,000 savings over purchasing a new machine. The benefit of this
machine is to allow us to start exercise water gate valves in a safe manner and year round
as time allows.
' The other piece of equipment is to trade in a 17 year old brush chipper and replace with a
new unit. I'he budget allocates $30,000 for this replacement. The existing unit due to its
age is often broken down and requires excessive maintenance. Stall is currently securing
' trade in price. Staff is asking authorization to spend up to $30.000 to replace this unit.
