Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Theresa Slominski—Finance & Office Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
July 10, 2018 6.1b
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• As mentioned previously, we have our site visit with NISC staff the end this month to
receive some training and do some testing with newly developed programming that
should make the functionality of true fund accounting more of a reality. We have already
seen noticeable changes in some accounting processes and look forward to this visit to
see where we are headed. I will provide an update next month on the results.
• Disconnects seem to have gone a little smoother in June. We are now seeing some of the
same customers that didn't pay over the winter and were shut off in April (when the cold
weather rule expired)that are being shut off again for not having made adequate
payments since. As difficult as the process can be sometimes, it is necessary to force
some customers to be accountable and current rather than so far behind.
• We have one staff member out on medical leave for the month of July, tentatively
returning August 9, 2018. This leaves a hole to fill for some critical job tasks to be
completed by other staff, however, gives us a great opportunity to test our cross training
of positions within the billing department.
• New construction services have really ramped up for May and June, and now July is
looking to be the same. The busyness that the field staff has been experiencing is now
coming full circle and is being experienced in the office paperwork and set up of these
new accounts.
104
