Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Tom Sagstetter—Conservation&Key Accounts Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
June 12, 2018 6.1f
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• Have been working with city staff to meet with department heads on incorporating the
Energy City Commission (ECC) action plan into the individual department's budget for
2019. Attended the June 4 City Council work session to provide information and receive
input from Council on future initiatives that the ECC can work to implement in the
future.
• Landfill gas plant engine #1 has some wear on the auxiliary driver gear. Based on past
performance, ERMU staff has advised Elk River Landfill to provide a maintenance check
on the auxiliary drive gear in August to determine if excessive wear may cause the engine
to be replaced prior to the January 2019 scheduled replacement.
• Per our all requirements contract with Minnesota Municipal Power Agency(MMPA),
they have assumed the role of negotiating a new wheeling agreement with Enel Energy as
part of their responsibilities as our wholesale power supplier. As part of the negotiation
they will establish a transition plan between Xcel Energy, MISO, and Great River
Energy.
• The 2018 Chevy Bolt has arrived and has been wrapped. The initial feedback from
employees and interested community members has been very supportive. If you would
like to go for a ride please let me know and we can take it for a spin.
• The level two charger has been installed in the ERMU/City Hall parking lot and has been
working perfectly. Having the 240 volt charger is very beneficial for charging compared
to the 120 volt method.
• Rebate activity has slowed a bit, but there are a number of substantial rebates waiting to
be processed. These are considerable projects and have a good bit of documentation that
needs to be collected.
• In the last 30 days the level two charger downtown has had 6 sessions, and provided
customers with 51 kWh of green energy. The new charger in the ERMU/City Hall
parking lot had 4 sessions and provided customers with 41 kWh of green energy. The DC
fast charger at the Coborn's fuel station has had 11 sessions and provided 100 kWh of
green energy to customers.
85
