Library Services Coordinator Report -Board Meeting -5-22-2018
In children's programming for March -May, we are having continued success with our Lego/Snap Circuit
classes, as well as the S.T.E.M, classes we are offering in cooperation with Sherburne County 4-H. Our
family storytime in March was very well attended, however the April family storytime was affected by
our April winter weather. Our regular weekly storytimes continue to have excellent attendance, in fact,
sometimes we are too full! Wednesday preschool story times, which is now lead by myself, continues to
drive the highest circulation numbers per week.
In teen and tween programs/services, our new Teen/Tween book club is starting to gain traction with 3
teens in attendance in April. Our teen trivia passive program continues to have great numbers as well.
In outreach news, our visit to Ivan Sands H.S. was cancelled at their request, and we will be re-
scheduling in the fall.
For adult programming, our visit from Mark Moran, author and appraiser, was a smash hit! We had a
full slate of appraisals for him, and 55 people in attendance over the course of his 3 hour presentation.
We will definitely have him back in Elk River again. Our concert night with Steve Sklar and JoAnna
Morrow was also very well attended. Our acrylic painting class with artist Rose Borman, was also full
with a waiting list, so we will be booking her again as well. All three of these programs were funded
with Legacy grant dollars. Our brain games for adults event did not have any attendees, however, we
are meeting with Guardian Angels later this month, and possibly one other senior services provider, to
look at how we could take this event on the road -taking it out to seniors instead of bringing them into
the library.
In other news, I presented the Annual Library report to the Elk River City Council on April 16, and based
on feedback from Elk River City staff, it went very well. The report consisted of statistics on circulation,
borrower numbers, and programming which were shared with this board at our last meeting. If anyone
would like additional information, please let me know.
Lastly, we will be working hard to fill 4 open positions at the library in the coming weeks. We have 3
part-time aide positions available, and 1 library assistant position available after June 1, due to a "semi-
retirement" of one of our longterm assistants. Filling library aide positions has been a challenge due to
the strong economy and competitive job market. We have re -vamped the schedules for these positions,
and will move forward as quickly as possible to fill them.
Summer reading program starts June 11,with the theme of "Reading Takes You Everywhere." We have
scheduled two outreach visits to the local elementary schools, both public and private. We are also
working with the Parks and Rec. dept. of the City of Elk River to attend the Farmer's Market once per
month this summer, and to be involved in Elk River Fest on July 7, by providing prizes for Bingo at the
event, and tying in our Summer Reading Program passport challenge to these two events. Here's
looking forward to a successful and busy summer!
GREAT RIVER REGIONAL
LIBRARY
