Ji
Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Tom Sagstetter—Conservation&Key Accounts Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
May 8, 2018 6.l f
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• Staff has been meeting with various stakeholders and residents throughout the state to
increase awareness of electric vehicles and the value they can provide. Highlights at the
events are decreasing carbon dioxide, improved regional air quality, keeping revenue
local, communities providing transportation savings for customers, and advance electric
sales in new markets. Have attended discussions at the MPUC, Representative Pat
Garofalo's EV briefing, Great Plains Institute grass roots session at Rochester Public
Utilities, and the Xcel Energy Commercial Expo in St. Paul.
• The Energy City Vision Committee has been working with the entire Commission to
update the 10 year action plan in preparation for the Cities next budget cycle. The Energy
City Commission will work through the possible changes at the May meeting. The ten
year action plan notes are attached for reference.
• Landfill gas plant engine#1 has some wear on auxiliary driver gear. Staff is evaluating
the option to replace the worn gear now or waiting until the engines scheduled
replacement in January 2019.
• Attended Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association (MMUA) Legislative Rally in St.
Paul, MN. The meetings this year were good, and there were no hot issues that needed to
be resolved. We always make sure that our elected officials know who to call if they have
questions about possible legislation that could impact our community. Commissioner
Matt Westgaard attended this year and it was nice that he could share his insight with
many people at the event.
• Staff is working with Minnesota Municipal Power Agency(MMPA)to develop a
transition plan for current customers that are participating in the load management
programs offered by ERMU. MMPA will not be implementing any direct load control
programs in the foreseeable future so ERMU will continue to transition to time of use
rates or complete elimination of the programs in the coming years.
• The 2018 Chevy Bolt has been built and is in the transport process. Once the vehicle
arrives it will be wrapped to highlight zero emissions, renewable energy, and the EV/ER
Power Your Future branding. The wrap design is attached your reference.
• Staff is working with MMPA on the transition of Conservation Improvement Programs
(CIP). Staff will be reaching out to MMPA member utilities to research how they track
and report CIP activity.
91
