( - Item# 6.7- Ty of , MEMORANDUM ikRiver TO: Planning Commission FROM: Steve Ach, City Planner DATE: September 30, 1997 SUBJECT: Review the Sale and Purchase of Real Property by the City of Elk River Issue The Planning Commission is asked to consider the sale of property in Parkview Addition and the purchase of property from the School Board to determine if these transactions are consistent with the City's Comprehensive Plan. Overview • Whenever the City either purchases or disposes of real property, the Planning Commission is asked to consider these transactions as they relate to the Comprehensive Plan. The role of the Planning Commission is to determine whether these transactions are consistent with the City's Comprehensive Plan. The two properties in question involve the following: • The sale of property in Parkview Addition which is the property located at the southwest corner of Jarvis and 165th Avenue. This property is a residential plat of approximately 6 acres of which one lot was final platted and is now nearing a point where it will be marketed for sale. The area is currently zoned R1a (Single Family Residential) which allows 2-1/2 acre lots. The lot which will be sold is approximately 14 acres in size. • The second parcel which the City is planning on purchasing is part of the Alternative Learning Center proposal by the School District. A land exchange between the City and School District is involved to facilitate that project's development. The land exchange will include the City purchasing approximately 20 acres and selling approximately 1/4 acre to the School District. Ill 13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
