Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Theresa Slominski—Finance & Office Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
April 10, 2018 6.1b
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• April 15 marks the end of the cold weather rule and there will be regular shutoffs
occurring again, which sometimes results in customers contacting Commissioners with
complaints and/or frustrations, so this is just a heads up. With the change in billing
cycles, we will be having weekly disconnections rather than a focused two-day period per
month. This will mean that we may potentially disconnect more offenders than in the
past. In the past, we were limited to approximately 60 disconnects per month due to
manpower. Cycle 1 could potentially have this same high number of disconnects, but
cycles 2 through 4 will have much lower numbers; we are estimating approximately 15-
25 disconnects for each of these cycles. The Wednesdays of April 18, April 25, May 2
and May 9 will be the disconnect dates for the four cycles immediately following the cold
weather rule restrictions being lifted. (Shutoffs will continue to be performed on
Wednesdays but these first four weeks would most likely be the highest volume.)
• On April 18 we will welcome our second Accountant back after twelve weeks of
maternity leave. With the Purchasing Specialist position also currently vacant we have
had a temporary staff member from Accountemps helping out and her last day will be
April 18. We are still evaluating the needs of the organization related to the Purchasing
Specialist position and whether to re-hire that same position or something different.
• The annual MISO reporting for our transmission assets, and related revenue, was filed
this month. Also the EIA-861, a Department of Energy annual report, was filed for our
plant generation output, our kWh sales, and our customers with net metering solar and
wind production.
174
