CU 93-36 REQUESTED ACTION A conditional use permit request to operate an upholstery business out of the applicant' s home. LOCATION OF REQUEST 11925-195th Avenue NW (Lot 11, Block 1, Schoolview First Addition) , Elk River, MN. ATTACHMENTS Location Map, Zoning Map, Letter from Applicant, Property Owners List. • BACKGROUND Mr. Altenweg is applying for a conditional use permit to operate an upholstery business out of his home. He has indicated that he will be the only employee of the business and plans on working approximately 40 hours per week during normal business hours . Mr. Altenweg is proposing to pick up and deliver all items he upholsters, therefore, no customers should be coming directly to the home. The applicant ' s business will consist of upholstering sofas, chairs, car seats, etc. Mr. Altenweg will do the work within the confines of his insulated garage. This should aid in keeping noise to a minimum. The tools used for the applicant' s upholstery shop consist of an industrial sewing machine, large cutting table, small air compressor, air staple gun, hammers, etc. There will be no exterior storage of related materials . Mr. Altenweg is the only occupant of the home and, in his opinion, will have ample room to park his vehicle inside the garage in one stall and run his business in the other stall . SIGNAGE The applicant has indicated that he does not want any signage for his business . City code allows a two square foot sign to be mounted flat on the wall of the dwelling for permitted home occupations .
