The intent of the position was to supervise usage at various park locations to ensure
safety and an enjoyable experience for park users. Recently as staff has further reviewed this position,
concern has been expressed from our public safety departments on whether or not the title is appropriate.
The concern is that the title gives an impression that the volunteer has a greater level of authority than is
appropriate.
In reviewing the purpose of the position, staff feels that the goals of the position can be effectively
accomplished through other areas of our volunteer program, such as the Adopt a Park program. Staff
recommends that we discontinue to Park Ranger volunteer position, and incorporate those services in
other areas of the volunteer program.
Financial Impact
None
Attachments
• Park Ranger position description
The Elk River Vision
A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional o w E 8 E o 81
service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity IiLAiUPEI
