GREAT RIVER REGIONAL LIBRARY - ONE LIBRARY 32 LOCATIONS
Patron Services Supervisor Report
To: Elk River Library Board
CC: Robbie Schake, LSC
From: Brandi Canter, Lead Patron Services Supervisor
Date: January 5, 2018

Locally Growin Fundraiser Coming in March 2018
GRRL has revamped its annual March fundraiser to be more locally-driven and responsive. In addition
to giving the fundraiser a new name, we’ll also be designating 100% of proceeds to stay local. Goals
will be set locally as well. These goals will be for specific purposes like additional programming, non-
floating collection materials, craft supplies, or incentives for reading programs.
Additional Digital Platforms at Griver.org
We’re excited to be adding two more platforms to our digital collection in 2018. Axis 360 is similar to
Overdrive, offering a variety of eBooks and eAudiobooks for residents of the GRRL service area. The
soft launch happened at the end of 2017, so you can already check out the titles. We’ll be having a kick
off party on February 3 at the St. Cloud Public Library. Our Associate Director of Collection
Development is working with Baker and Taylor to secure some great authors for this event.
MN Writes MN Reads is a statewide project headed up by Metropolitan Library Service Agency
(MELSA) to provide a way for local authors to create eBooks and share them with readers across the
state (and potentially wider). Authors can design and export their eBooks using Pressbooks, share their
work, and then readers can access the titles on BiblioBoard. We’re anticipating there will be a contest in
April to help launch the project. While GRRL’s web page for MN Writes is still a work in progress, you
can check out MELSA’s site at http://www.melsa.org/melsa/index.cfm/programs/featured/mn-writes-
mn-reads.
Library Legislative Day March 6, 2018
Once again we’ll be taking our voices to the state capital to talk about the importance of libraries to the
overall health of our communities. New to 2018: the Minnesota Library Association Legislative
Committee is working on development of a virtual component to make this important work more
accessible to library supporters.
