Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Theresa Slominski—Finance & Office Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
October 10, 2017 6.1b
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• Troy and I met with our auditors on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 for their annual visit
with us. This was an opportunity to discuss issues, evaluate customer satisfaction, and
pro-actively prepare for upcoming changes. It was a good meeting and we were able to
confirm the great working relationship we have with our auditors. Topics covered were
the governance policies being adopted, the change to the five member commission, and
current financial statement presentations. We also discussed upcoming GASB
implementations and determined they will not have much impact on us.
• The annual Member Information Conference (MIC)provided by NISC was September 25
—28, 2017. We sent the Customer Service Manager, a Customer Service Representative,
the Inventory Person, an Accountant, the PR/AP Specialist, and the Technical Services
Superintendent.
• It was Customer Service Week October 2-6 and we celebrated the good work that our
customer service staff do to provide exceptional customer service to our customers. With
the cold weather rule dates fast approaching, October 15 through April 15,we will have
another round of"opportunities"with our final mass shutoff of the year. I don't have any
solid numbers on how many accounts we will shutoff but it is usually around 50.
93
