5.7
GREAT RIVER REGIONAL LIBRARY - ONE LIBRARY 32 LOCATIONS
Patron Services Supervisor' Report
To: Elk River Library Board
CC: Robbie Schake, LSC
From: Brandi Canter, Lead Patron Services Supervisor
Date: September 19, 2017
Open Hours Negotiations
On Monday, August 14 GRRL Executive Director Karen Pundsack, Robbie and I attended a City Council
work session to discuss Elk River's 2018 library budget and the possibility of additional City-funded
open hours.
A request for action (attached) was presented and approved at the September 18 City Council to direct
City staff to enter into a 5-year agreement with GRRL to increase open hours. The next step is for Karen
and the City to work out the agreement language. Our goal is to be ready to implement the new open
hours as of January 1, 2018.
Legacy programming in 2018
We're excited to share that the portion of Legacy funds for GRRL will actually increase. Each branch will
be allotted $1,700 for local programs. Additional programming will be organized through regional staff,
including a region-wide 2018 Summer Reading Program celebration. Many thanks to all our advocates
who spoke up to help ensure continued funding.
If you need a refresher on where libraries' Legacy programming comes from, here's a bit of info from
http://www.legacy.leg.mn/funds/arts-cultural-heritage-fund:
The Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund receives 19.75 percent of the sales tax revenue
resulting from the Legacy amendment to support arts, arts education and arts access, and
to preserve Minnesota's history and cultural heritage. Based on current sales tax revenue,
Minnesotans will invest more than $1.2 billion in arts and cultural heritage fund projects
and programs over the 25 year life of the tax.
All Staff Day Library Closure, Monday October 9, 2017
GRRL will be holding its annual all-staff meeting on Monday, October 9, and all branches will be closed.
<,,.'J GREAT RIVER REGIONAL
4IBRARY
