Following the
promotion of a police officer to sergeant,we will have a police officer vacancy. Due to the lengthy hiring
process and training requirements for police officer,we began this recruitment shortly after Sergeant
Dummer retired.
We received 63 applications and invited the 59 candidates that met the minimum requirements for
interviews. Second interviews were conducted with 14 candidates and 3 were selected to interview with
Chief Nierenhausen. One declined due to other interests and following the Chief interviews, the other
two candidates moved forward with the pre-employment testing. Following this very lengthy and
detailed process, staff recommends Brandon Martin for the position of police officer.
Mr. Martin received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in child advocacy studies in
2015 and completed his SKILLS training in May of 2016. His law enforcement background includes
three years as a reserve officer for the Goodview Police Department and a 3-month internship with the
City of St. Louis Park Police Department. Mr. Martin currently works as a Sheriff's Deputy for the
Wright County Sheriff's Department.
Mr. Martin will start at Step 1 of the Police Officer Wage Rate per the current union contract. All other
pay and benefits will be consistent with the contract and/or city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
Attachments
■ None
The Elk River Vision
A PehoMing community 2a itb revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional POWERED By
service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity INAMIRE1
