GREAT RIVER REGIONAL ONE • • 5.7
To: Elk River Library Board
CC: Robbie Schake, LSC
From: Brandi Canter, Lead Patron Services Supervisor
Date: July 18, 2017
City Request to Expand Open Hours
On Monday, July 17, Executive Director Karen Pundsack and I met with Mayor John Dietz and Cal Portner to
discuss costs and options with the open hour request. Staffing estimates are based actual local staffing dollars
using the additional hours it would require at the LSC (1), assistant (6), and aide levels (3) for an additional 3
open hours. We discussed the option of moving some of the dollars currently allocated for programming to
open hours, and the impacts that would have. The next step is for the Elk River City Council to determine
whether it wants to move forward.
2016 Annual Report
Hot off the press! It was a busy and productive 2016. Thank you for your role in making it so successful.
Regional Initiatives Moving Forward
This year we are expanding our fall early literacy initiative to all branches, not just those with a Headstart. Staff
in every GRRL location will provide STEM-based story times to a community partner such as Headstart, ECFE,
etc. Regional Patron Services staff will put together program activities and suggested stories that local staff
can adapt orjust grab-n-go.
In December we will kick off our first week of Hour of Code programming throughout the region to help kids
learn the problem-solving and logic steps that are involved in coding for apps and software programs.
GRRL has expanded our regional efforts over the last few years, providing more resources, ideas, and support
to local staff. Our "ThinkTank" of professional staff meet monthly to develop programs and resources. We also
get a number of innovative program and outreach ideas from local staff that we then make available
regionally.
\fEAT RIVER REGIONAL
'LaBRARY
