...>.(4
ElkMemorandum Item: 9.2
River
To: Parks and Recreation Commission
From: Tim Sevcik,Park Superintendent
Date: July 7, 2017
Subject: Staff Report
Athletic Complexes
The scoreboard project is complete at the Youth Athletic Complex and Oak Knoll Football Field. All
seven scoreboards are installed and in operation and have been used by both baseball and softball and
they are ecstatic with the addition to the complex.
Staff is in the process of receiving quotes for replacement of the Dave Anderson Athletic Complex
irrigation system. This system is over 30 years old and is no longer functional. While inspecting the well
that supports the irrigation system,it was noted that the pump was undersized for the irrigation system
as well. Staff is working with well contractors to upgrade the well components to a 10 horsepower
pump to allow for sufficient irrigation for the athletic complex and for Orono Park. Staff anticipates
receiving final costs by the end of July and hopes to replace the irrigation system yet this year.
Trail Projects
The trail projects along Orono Parkway and Joplin Street are complete. These two trails were paired
with the road reconstruction projects. The contractor is looking to begin work on the remaining trail
construction projects in the next several weeks beginning with the short trail segment at the library
followed by the segment north of the high school and finally with the trail construction and
reconstruction at Kliever Lake Fields.
Barrington Park Playground
Replacement of the Barrington Park playground is anticipated to begin on July 11,2017 with removal of
the existing structure by Kids Around the World. The new playground is ordered and installation is
anticipated to be conducted the week of July 24, 2017. The playground should be largely complete by
early August.
Trott Brook Farms Park
Tennis court resurfacing is anticipated to begin the third week of July and should be completed in 1-2
days. Cracks on the courts will be grouted and sealed, the surface repainted and tennis and pickleball
lines added.
rM E 1 E / 11
N:\Departments\Parks and Recreation\Commission\Packets\2017\07-12-17 PRC Packet\9.2 Park Superintendents NATURE
Report.docx
